Reminders by snail mail
Happy Mail, indeed.
This sticker arrived just in time yesterday. I saw Pencils and Purpose randomly on social media the other day. This sticker in particular. Immediately placed an order.
It’s a small thing, but it’s tangible. It’s a sticker, but it’s not just a sticker.
I support independent original artists whenever space and budget allow.
I’ve started going to my local libraries again - not just for books but for a variety of resources the library provides - including events!
I always shop independent and used bookstores first.
I shop local when I can and I blow my budget at farmers markets.
Sometimes it feels like nothing, but it’s what I can do.
Last night, hearing about what AI companies are doing with books…I could hardly go to sleep. And then this morning, hearing the story expanded, I was immediately anxious.
But I remembered my stickers. I grabbed my envelope and pulled them out.
I remembered that there are still artists in the world making things. There are still people who care and get upset about the same things as me. They not be to my immediate left or right, but they are there when I look. And as crazy and horrific a “space” as the internet can be at times, I’m reminded that for almost 30 years, it’s given me access to likeminded people when I thought I was alone.
So anyway, taking a deep breath, continuing to do what I do, and supporting whoever I can.
